These images are monoprints that were digitally lifted, to some degree, from the paper they were printed on. I created them in 1999 or thereabouts, under the silly pseudonym Viola Brastrapi. I was successfully building a career as a freelance illustrator, and thought I'd try to market a different style to magazines my other work wouldn't fit into. I never got around to pursuing the idea. Looking back at these, they're definitely too tied to the photo reference – but they're still kind of stylistically kooky and fun to look at. The subjects are all musicians: Mark Eitzel, Björk, Thom Yorke, Bruce Springsteen, Grant-Lee Phillips, and Josh Clayton-Felt.
